7 Weeks of Prayer

7WOP: 7 Weeks of Prayer

Praying for the New Decade…

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.”

(Isaiah 44:3-4)

We are coming to the last quarter – the end of a decade. The sun of 2019, golden and hazy, is yawning and laying itself to rest. It’s what photographers call, ‘Golden Hour’ – when the sunshine adorns the trees with glorious golden hues. The sky is left with a parting gift of bright crimson red. They say, “Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight!” Yet what does this next decade hold? Will these be the new “Roaring ‘20s”?

To pray is to plug yourself into an infinite source of power. It’s to come before the One who is the King of the universe, yet who has adopted us as His children and beckoned to cry out for Him to move. In prayer we are handed a weapon, a channel of the very might of the Creator God, that can transform our nation. Hear His promise for revival in our dry and weary land: “I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground” (Isaiah 44:3).

But after the sunset, the glorious beauty of that ruddy sky, comes the night. And today we might feel wearied by promises of decades past – and still we don’t see them come to fruition. It’s easy to feel the night will never end. Imagine a person who’s only ever lived in midnight – would they not laugh at the idea of the whole sky being filled once again with light?

Look to the east! A faint glow of hope is beginning to stir on the horizon. Let us not lose heart – the fulfilment of God’s promise is sure as the dawn. Let our hearts not accuse God of being a promise-breaker! Soon the east will be beautified by another red sky – the red sky of warning. Rain is coming! The rain of the Holy Spirit is coming soon…

God promises to send the Holy Spirit on those who ask – so let us pray! As the sun sets on this decade – in the ‘Golden Hour’ just before dusk – churches across this city and county are rallying together to seek God with all our hearts. Come surf this wave of prayer with us, and watch the strongholds of darkness fall like sandcastles!

More details
Building on Thy Kingdom Come, and the strong heart for prayer in unity amongst even diverse churches in Herefordshire, we’ve got a vision for something even more radical – 7 weeks of prayer. We’re building momentum by a ‘Launch Week’ of 24/7 prayer, building to a whole-church launch gathering on 13th October. Then we’ll dive headfirst into the 7 weeks of prayer themselves. We’ll stand together in solidarity for real transformation of society by seeking God’s heart for the key structures contained within it. This is both individual and corporate – and so prayer meetings and other events are part of this – to encourage and spur you on – but most significant is whether we ourselves take to heart this call to pray. This land has gone too long without water, and we long for revival in this next decade. Yet will we persist in prayer?

Launch Week (7-13 Oct)

84 hours were covered in prayer over this week.

Week of 24/7 Prayer

“All day and all night they will never keep silent.”
(Isaiah 62:6)

We want to start as we mean to go on, with a week saturated with 24/7 prayer, day and night. This sort of prayer emphasises creative participation – writing, drawing, singing, painting, doodling – unlocking gifts of creativity to point others to the inexpressible wonder we find in the Lord. We long to wholeheartedly pursue our God, calling upon Him to purify and prepare our hearts for 2020, ready for Him to transform our nation. Could you join in for an hour, day or night?

Launch Gathering

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
(Psalm 133:1)

The whole Church from across Herefordshire is invited to pursue God’s heart together – a true family – and begin this seven weeks of prayer with a bang of music, prayer and hearing more about the vision for 7 weeks of prayer! Could we make it one of the largest and most diverse gatherings of Christians in our county in this century thus far? We long to be the answer to Jesus’ longing prayer in John 17 for our complete oneness – and cannot even conceive of the wonders He would pour out on us if we truly sought Him in unity. All welcome – every denomination, every background – all united by our shared adoption into the family of Christ!

The 7 Weeks of Prayer

The 7 weeks begin on Monday 14th October, and during each week we’re calling God’s people to stand together in their personal prayer for each of these spheres of society, as well as having opportunities to pray together. (See button below for what events are planned thus far – or book the Upper Room prayer space anytime…)

Finale Gathering

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.

(Psalm 126:1-2)

After all God’s done, after His sacrifice, His constant nearness, His wonders in the present, how can we not celebrate?! Why hold back our joy? Here’s our chance to rejoice in all He will do in the new decade in passionate worship – singing, crying out, jumping, dancing – joy in the Lord!
