By Andrew Milne, St Francis Xavier

“Comfort ye my people, says your God.”
(Isaiah 40:1)

Thought for the day:

It’s hard to see an end to discord and disease. Yet the longest night, 21st December, marks the low point of our travails. The solstice is the hinge of winter, coming four days before Christmas. Likewise the birth of Christ in Bethlehem is the hinge on which our future hangs.

Today’s prayer:

Be comforted, my children; Jesus prays with us.
Speak tenderly to your towns and families.
Tell them their hard times are completed, separation from the divine, over.
We are levelling a highway through our despair, terracing away the mountains of all that we feared.
Grant us your wonder and peace.
