‘Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel’, which means,
‘God is with us.’

(Matthew 1:23)

Thought for the day:

I’ve always loved the line from the carol ‘Little Drummer Boy’, “Then He smiled at me”. We all know newborn babies can’t smile, but the idea of baby Jesus smiling warms my heart. Jesus was certainly a special baby; special enough for workers to walk off their night-shift watching sheep to go and see for themselves; special enough for a group of foreign academics to trek for miles to seek him. Amidst all the hubbub of Christmas, let’s seek the very first Christmas gift, the gift of Emmanuel, God with us.

Today’s prayer:

May Emmanuel smile on you this Christmas time.
Amen.
